We were there!

StorageTek in the UK grew out of several roots - the initial set up in 1976 of Storage Technology Europe (Holdings) was followed in 1978 by the establishment of Storage Technology Ltd. This prestige organisation was created by hiring people from distributors and Competitors, the Service guys were primarily from BASF UK, whilst the Sales guys mainly came from Memorex or Control Data, HR was the interview in the Pub downstairs, Supply Chain was the Cupboard in the Corner,  Finance was Mike and anyone he could find who knew book keeping.

By 18:30 everyone was in the Kensington High Street Wine Bar and joined the STC Animals Club by the simple process of drinking a Bottle of French Red wine and surviving the drive home! I won't even mention the Manager who let my 17 year old girl friend drive his Jaguar home! or the FE who succeeded in driving a 5 cylinder Audi from Southall to the west end despite "someone" having removed 4 of the Spark Plug leads.

Over the years several companies were assimilated into StorageTek and brought their own cultures and attitudes into the melting pot, throughout this growth the ethos "Work Hard, Play Hard" was the guiding light and was apparent until the last days of the Companies existence as a Subsidiary of StorageTek Corporation..
